Alex Behn is an interdisciplinary artist working primarily in glass alongside wood, metal, fiber, and cast materials. She received her BFA in Sculptural Dimensional Studies from Alfred University and currently lives and works in Corning, New York.

Behn's practice explores queerness as a condition of becoming. Through material transformation, she investigates how queer identities must find alternative pathways to becoming. Working with theories of interdependence and collective care, Behn questions inherited structures of categorization and binary opposition. Using impressions of her own body to translate the sensory and emotional experiences of embodiment into material form.

Recurring motifs such as the grid emerge as physical structures to hold this conceptual framework of body/environment relation. This form references systems that determine how bodies are expected to move through the world. At the same time, they reveal the instability of those systems and the ways people must resist them. Glass offers a material language for undefinable moments of change. Its fluidity, and amorphous properties mirror a queer understanding of identity; relational, and ever changing. In conversation with the natural world, her work imagines portals to new ways of being rooted in connection and reciprocity.
